One frequently identified object at Chichén Itzá is a jaguar throne, a seat shaped like a jaguar presumably made for some of the rulers. This one is the only one left at the site open to the public; the remainder are in museums, because they are often richly painted with inlaid shell, jade and crystal features. Jaguar thrones were found in
the Castillo and in the
Nunnery Annex; they are often found illustrated on murals and pottery as well.
